Handwork Program
I am delighted to share my skills and Waldorf handwork curriculum with the valley families.
Waldorf schools shape their methods, content and timing of their curriculums in such a way that they are appropriate for the developmental stages of all growing children. No matter your child's age or ability, girls and boys alike, are patiently taught various age-appropriate fiber arts skills such as: knitting, crocheting, embroidery, plant dyeing, felting, whittling and wood working. Children get to personalize each project through color selection, technique and embellishments. Many different projects are accomplished during the year and as your child's skills grow so does the complexity of the projects. Animal characters for creative play, dolls, knitted scarves, ponchos, socks, crocheted shopping bags, hats and ponchos are some of the examples to come back home when the work is completed...
Classes meet weekly for
10 sessions per season.
I offer classes on
Fridays 4:30 - 6:30pm
or
Saturdays 2 pm - 4:00 pm.

What Else is Accomplished?
What I am really teaching are extremely helpful basic human qualities. I am teaching the children's attention to detail and patience. I teach them to find joy in repetitive movements like rolling out the wool with knitting needles, while also working on rhythm, balance, right posture, and standing firmly on the ground. Children learn the correct use of tools, to complete projects, to value beauty in all work and to
stay within time frames. The value of taking hold of
the conscious creativity cannot be stressed highly enough, especially when the child crosses the
Rubicon of the age 12. To leave the idealistic realm
of childish dreams takes the experience of real
creative power that can manifest ideas in the world.
The exercise of a craft brings with it the necessity for self-control, knowledge of one's strengths and limits, experience of others struggles and successes and the value of mutual support. Each child should have the profound experience of his creative powers.
